DUTIES

The Mayor appoints the members of the 11 committees that are instrumental in the management of the day to day City business. She works with these committee members as well as the Fire, Library and Parks and Recreation (including the Senior Citizen Committee) Commissions.

The Mayor works closely with the Grand Blanc City Manager to establish and coordinate City projects and agendas for these projects. In addition, Mayor Soderstrom chairs the City Council meetings.

The City Council consists of the Mayor and six Council Members.  All must be US citizens who have reached the age of 18 and registered voters of the City of Grand Blanc. Members are elected at large by the citizens of the City in November of odd-numbered years to staggered 4-year terms. A proposal on the November 2006 City ballot was passed, changing the Mayor's term from 2 years to 4 years. This took effect beginning with the mayoral election in November 2007.
